About Us

Our History

Adriya Sports evolved from the urgent need to provide affordable, high-quality sports infrastructure to schools.

The seeds were sown in 1994 when the then principal of an underprivileged primary school and sports enthusiast, approached Vyash Ramluggan, a junior first year teacher at the school, to establish a synthetic cricket pitch and cricket practice net at the school to initiate more effective training and development of Cricket at the school.

At the time, Vyash Ramluggan had just began installing low budget domestic fencing of wire mesh and wooden poles to supplement his meagre income. With such a limited skills base he was not convinced that he had the requisite skills to fulfil such a request and made a feeble attempt to decline the request.

The principal’s final but compelling words were, “Of course you can do this. A cricket net is really nothing more than a concrete slab with fence around it. Go do some homework and get on with it”.

Not to be beaten by the challenge, the 24-year-old Vyash bought an oil-cooled welding machine and a hacksaw, took some basic welding and building lessons and began the project to the design brief of the principal and the school’s sports master.

Through divine grace and determination, the project turned out to be a resounding success that caught the attention of the then President of Natal Cricket Union, the great Mr SK Reddy. Mr Reddy invited Vyash Ramluggan to submit a proposal for the construction of similar facilities at mainly historically disadvantaged schools and municipal facilities to take cricket to the people to introduce and popularise the sport of Cricket at school level.

This opportunity was welcomed with open arms. An innovative space had opened that demanded full-time commitment.

Adriya Sports was born. Brothers Vyash and Sunir Ramluggan departed from the teaching profession to pursue retrain and upgrade their skills in civil and building work to construct sports facilities that expanded into tennis courts, Five-A-Side soccer pitches, combination courts and more recently Padel courts.  Adriya Sports is also home to Adriya Colour Armour, a highly durable and attractive All-weather sports surface that had been adding comfort and vibrant colour to sports courts since 2002.

With a national footprint and a staff of over 80 people, Adriya Sports is a truly homegrown business made great by the support of its highly talented staff, exceptional suppliers and by the hundreds of satisfied customers spanning three decades.
